The Government of India introduced the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) in 2016 with the aim of augmenting the involvement of apprentices across diverse industries. NAPS aims to ensure high-quality training and offer financial incentives to create a win-win situation for employers and apprentices.

The program's main objectives are to raise the calibre of apprenticeship training by creating assessment bodies, standardising curricula, and encouraging skills that are applicable to the workplace.
Employers can receive financial support from NAPS to hire apprentices. Up to ₹1,500 per apprentice per month, the government reimburses 25% of the stipend paid to apprentices.
Employers can register, post openings for apprenticeships, and monitor apprentice progress through the easily navigable NAPS online portal.
National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS):
Another important initiative by the Indian government was the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS), which was introduced in 2016 to help students pursuing technical education with apprenticeship training.

- Mobilise relevant candidates counsel them to undergo apprenticeship trainings
- Arrange the basic training under the Apprenticeship Act through Basic Training Providers
- Assist the establishments get approval for Basic Training Centers (BTCs)
- Assist the establishment in designing courses
- Portal Management
- Furnish all the returns
- Submit reimbursement claims on behalf of establishment towards stipend paid
- Ensure compliance of all formalities by the apprentices for appearing in assessment and examinations
