The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme(NATS) is a flagship Programme from the Government of India and undertaken by the Ministry of Education. The Programme is aimed at enhancing the employability of students by equipping technically qualified youth with practical knowledge and skills required in their respective field(s) of work

Benefits of NATS to Establishments


  • The government of India is providing financial support to the industries by way of reimbursing 50% of the Government share of the stipend paid to the apprentices
  • Any expenses on apprenticeship training over & above 2.5% i.e minimum Mandate as per the apprenticeship act can be booked under CSR.
  • Labour laws are not applicable to Apprentices.
  • Statutory benefits like Bonuses, PF, ESI, etc. aren’t applicable to Apprentices.
  • No obligation to providing permanent employment to the apprentices
  • General Stream Graduates i.e. BA B Com., B Sc candidates can be deployed for min 6 months to max 36 months.

Why the Apprenticeship is important & Penalties for Non-Compliance of Act

  • Mandated under the law for all establishments having more than 30 employees (including contractual employees) to engage apprentices.
  • Under Clause 30 (1A) of the Act, the defaulter shall be punishable with a fine of Rs. 500 per short fall of apprentice seat per month, for the first three months and thereafter Rs. 1000 per month per seat,till the such number of seats are filled up.
